Organizers of the Kiawah Island Motoring Retreat took a page out of the Hilton Head and Amelia Island Concours playbook and last Saturday, before the concours d’elegance, they held the Cars Of Kiawah show, which was open to cars from local and regional clubs that were not quite concours level but still nice show cars.
The field included 200 cars with everything from an unrestored AMC Pacer to a Ferrari, from Porsches to Corsairs, and just about any other interesting car you might imagine.
There were some exceptional cars with some of my favorites including a nice Ferrari 330GTC, a very well restored Triumph TR4, a super cool Chevrolet Corsair Rampside pickup, and a wonderful Austin Healey Bigeye Sprite.
The day was perfect car show weather with lots of sun and shirt-sleeve temperatures.
A nice addition to the car club event set it apart from other like events was the dinner held after the show. The organizers ended the club day with a real pit BBQ. This was a nice way to end the day and keep the event going after the end of the show.
