It was Everyman’s day Saturday at the Ritz with car clubs and collectors from all around the Jacksonville area converging on The Golf Club of Amelia Island to show off their automotive pride and joys to an appreciative crowd that gets in for free.
The annual Cars and Coffee at the Concours, presented by Heacock Classic Car Insurance, takes place on the same grassy fairways adjacent to the Ritz-Carlton resort where the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance happens today. Except on Saturday, Everyman (and Everywoman) was invited to bring his or her classic car, custom, late-model exotic, sports car or what-have-you for a laid-back show that attracted more than 250 entrants and hundreds of onlookers.
People who came for Cars and Coffee also were invited to see the impressive displays that the manufacturers have laid out for the concours. Alfa-Romeo, Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar showed off some of their most-historic cars while Buick attracted a crowd with a rare showing of the original 1930s concept, a roadster known as the Y Job.
