In case you needed evidence that Mecum brings a diverse selection of collector cars to its auctions, just take a look at the five top sellers from the Denver sale last weekend.
The highest sale was that of a modern exotic, a 2016 Ferrari California T convertible sold for $165,000 (Mecum results do not include buyer fees). The Ferrari was followed by a vintage vehicle from the opposite end of the spectrum, a 1960 Volkswagen 23-window Samba microbus that went for $120,000.
Next came a pair of wild cards, continuation Shelby 427 Cobras dated 1965 and 1964 that sold for $115,000 and $110,000, respectively. Then a high-performance 1968 Ford Mustang fastback custom sold for $95,000.
The next five included two vintage Chevrolet Corvettes and a Chevelle LS6 coupe, more typical of popular collector cars at auction. But there were also a 1994 Land Rover Defender at $86,000, and a restored and updated 1936 Autocar vehicle hauler, which sold for $86,000.
Quite a mixed bag of top sales from what Mecum calls “the eclectic mix of cars.”
The Denver auction resulted in total sales of $11.4 million (not including fees), with 411 vehicles sold out of 591 offered for a respectable 70 percent sell-through rate.
