The Goodwood Festival of Speed, known as “the world’s largest motoring garden party,” has added a special category dedicated to the motorsport of drifting for its June 25-28 event in the UK.
Headlining the all-new “Catch my Drift?” category is “Mad” Mike Whiddett and the famed Ken Block, along with other top athletes in the popular motorsport.
In 2014, Mad Mike’s fearless driving earned him the Spirit of the Festival award. This year, Mad Mike plans to thrill the crowd with some tire-smoking action from behind the wheel of his Mazda RX-7 while Ken Block will be showcasing all 850 horsepower that makes up the Hoonicorn, a custom all-wheel-drive 1965 Ford Mustang. Block also will be alongside another Monster athlete, Festival of Speed debutant Buttsy Butler and his Toyota Soarer.
In addition to those top drivers, Extreme Drift Allstars will bring four more to the Festival of Speed.
James Deane, last year’s Extreme Drift Allstars European Champion, who brings his Falken Motorsports Nissan 200SX S14 to Goodwood’s iconic 1.16-mile Hillclimb. Deane made history in 2014 by setting a world record for a continuous twin-vehicle drift lasting an astonishing 17.72 miles.
Deane will be joined by the man he beat for the championship, Piotr Wiecek, who brings his 1,000-horsepower Budmat R34 Skyline to the UK and will look to show the form that carried him to the 2014 Polish national title.
Norway’s top drifting star, Joachim Waargaard, will give his anticipated BMW M4 its first outing in public at Goodwood, while Australian Champion Luke Fink will drive his famous LBP PS13 V8. Kuba Przygonski, driving a Toyota GT86, will show off his skills as well.
