Editor’s note: This is the eighth in a 30-day series featuring cars from the Tammy Allen Collection to be sold October 13-15 at Barrett-Jackson’s 2016 Las Vegas Auction.

To rival the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge released its own pony car, the Challenger, for the 1970 model year. Based off the Chrysler E-body, the Challenger was available with nearly every engine in Chrysler’s lineup and provided an unrivaled number of trim options.

The R/T option, also known as the Road/Track model, was a performance package

Only four Challenger models were available in 1971, the Challenger Deputy, hardtop, convertible or R/T hardtop.

The R/T option, also known as the Road/Track model, was a performance package that came standard with a 6.2-liter 383cid “magnum” V8 and a three-speed automatic or manual transmission. Available engine upgrade options included the 7.0-liter 426 Hemi and the 7.2-liter 440cid six-pack.

Offered from the Tammy Allen Collection at no reserve during Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas auction next month is this Plum Crazy 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T, which features a 383 V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission.

The engine, while not original to the car, has approximately 600 miles on it since the completion of the car’s body-off restoration in 2006. That restoration included a mechanical remake of the transmission, and exhaust system.

The build also included upgrades such as a 3.55 Sure Grip third member (rear-end component) along with and Street Performance torsion bar suspension.

The car has factory air conditioning and all of gauges have been restored.

This 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T and the rest of the Tammy Allen Collection will be crossing the block at no reserve as part of Barrett-Jackson’s ninth annual Las Vegas Auction, October 13-15 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. For more information, visit www.Barrett-Jackson.com/Bid or call 480-421-6694. Absentee bidding options powered by Proxibid are also available.
