Editor’s note: This is the 2nd in a 30-day series featuring cars from the Tammy Allen Collection to be sold October 13-15 at Barrett-Jackson’s 2016 Las Vegas Auction.
Offered without reserve from the Tammy Allen collection to cross the Las Vegas Barrett-Jackson block October 13-15 is a 1947 Studebaker Starlight coupe dubbed “Black Bart.” Built by award-winning builder Tony Carlini. “Black Bart” is the 4-wheel version of the late builder’s one-time line of custom show motorcycles.
To create the custom coupe, Carlini restored the original steel body and used it in the build. The body is finished in a lustrous black paint while the cabin’s interior and trunk are appointed in custom Mocha leather. Other creature comforts within the interior include air conditioning with polished components and a complete set of Auto Meter gauges.
Under the hood of Carlini’s custom creation is a custom-built and balanced 462 cubic inch Chevrolet big block coupled to a General Motors Turbo Hydromatic 400 automatic transmission. Power is transferred to the rear wheels with a polished Currie 9-inch posi-traction differential with 3.25:1 gears.
Also on “Black Bart” are power 4-wheel disc brakes, power rack & pinion steering, and a 4-link rear suspension.
This 1947 Studebaker Starlight coupe Champion custom “Black Bart” and the rest of the Tammy Allen Collection will cross the block at no reserve as part of Barrett-Jackson’s ninth annual Las Vegas auction October 13-15 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.
