Editor’s note: This is the 28th in a 30-day series featuring cars from the Ron Pratte Collection that will be sold this month at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction.

Racing legends Carroll Shelby and Don “The Snake” Prudhomme joined forces to build the ultimate street-legal dragster. Only 100 Prudhomme Super Snake packages were offered by Shelby Autos and this 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition is the one and only concept car used to launch the program, carry Shelby CSM #0001C. The two icons unveiled this car at a reception at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum in February 2009.

The Prudhomme Edition Super Snake concept car is powered by a 5.4 Liter supercharged engine that makes 800 horsepower on race fuel or 750 on 93-octane gasoline. The concept car also includes a Kenne Belle-modified air intake sticking out of the hood in the tilt front end, a 5-point impact safety harness and a Borla side exhaust system. A front and rear adjustable BMR racing suspension and drag tires are part of the package.

Intended to be a true street-legal drag car, the build team at Shelby Autos used the championship careers of Carroll Shelby and Don Prudhomme as its inspiration. Shelby was twice named Sports Illustrated’s “Driver of the Year” and Prudhomme’s successful racing career included winning the NHRA funny car championship four times.

This 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prudhomme Edition (Lot #2524) is scheduled to cross the auction block in Scottsdale on Saturday, January 17. The Ron Pratte Collection will begin being auctioned at the 44th Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction with automobilia from Saturday, January 10 at 9 a.m. (MST) through Tuesday, January 13 at 1 p.m. Pratte’s vehicles first cross the block at 4 p.m. on Tuesday with lot numbers 2000 through 2109 and continue with lot numbers 2500 through 2530 Saturday, January 17.
