Cars from the Ron Pratte Collection

Editor’s note: This is the 29th in a 30-day series featuring cars from the Ron Pratte Collection that will be sold this month at Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction.

Originally born a C-code, 289-cubic-inch, 2-barrel fastback, this Mustang has been rebuilt as a high-quality GT500E Supercar. It was the first of an anticipated run of 75 GT500E Super Snakes constructed under the direction of Carroll Shelby and executed by Unique Performance of Irving, Texas.

The stock parallel leaf-sprung rear axle has been replaced by a cantilever-style independent rear suspension with Baer/Shelby disc brakes all around.

While some GT500E creators took shortcuts under the hood, this car packs an expensive all-aluminum Shelby 427cid FE engine with aluminum Shelby heads and a double cross-bolted aluminum Shelby engine block.

Fed by a large, encased Holley 4-barrel carburetor thats been bolstered by a Vortec V2 centrifugal supercharger and nitrous oxide, power is fed into a 5-speed manual transmission with a steel scatter shield surrounding the high capacity clutch.

A modern air conditioning system assures comfortable cruising while deep-bolster Super Snake racing seats assure high-G driver security.

This 1967 Ford Shelby GT500E Super Snake (Lot #2030) is scheduled to cross the auction block in Scottsdale on Tuesday, January 17.

The Ron Pratte Collection will begin being auctioned at the 44th Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction with automobilia from Saturday, January 10 at 9 a.m. (MST) through Tuesday, January 13 at 1 p.m. Prattes vehicles first cross the block at 4 p.m. on Tuesday with lot numbers 2000 through 2109 and continue with lot numbers 2500 through 2530 Saturday, January 17.
