The Chrysler Airflow was introduced in 1934 and sold through 1937. But the aerodynamic design concept was so advanced that the buying public still hadn’t caught up to this image and sales dwindled. Throughout the rest of the ’30s, most Chryslers looked like their design had taken a step backward.
The fact remains that the Chrysler Airflow opened the door to the future of automotive design, and imaginative engineers have been charging through it ever since.
This steel masterpiece —a 1936 Chrysler Airflow Custom 2-Door Coupe (Lot #2521) has won more than 35 prestigious awards, including the $20,000 Gold Award in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
One of only four remaining in the United States today, this car has taken the original concept to and entirely different dimension. It has a completely new chassis, modern underpinnings, luxury and comfort and the performance only a V10 Viper engine can provide.
This ‘36 Chrysler Airflow is scheduled to cross the auction block in Scottsdale on Saturday, January 17.
The Ron Pratte Collection will begin being auctioned with automobilia from Saturday, January 10 at 9 a.m. (MST) through Tuesday, January 13 at 1 p.m. Pratte’s vehicles first cross the block at 4 p.m. on Tuesday with lot numbers 2000 through 2109 and continue with lot numbers 2500 through 2530 Saturday, January 17.
