The National Corvette Museum is now managing public tours of the General Motors Corvette Assembly Plant, located just across the highway in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Under the museum’s management, tours will start at 8:30 a.m. and run every 15 minutes until 1:45 p.m. with each tour lasting approximately one hour. Guests get a guided tour that requires walking about a mile in the plant with no purses, cameras, cell phones or backpacks. Guests must wear closed-toe shoes.
Tour tickets are $10 for adults or $5 for children 10-16 years of age.
Additionally, the museum has opened registration for the Michelin NCM Bash to be held April 28-30. Attendees will be able to get up close to the next model-year Corvette and hear from the engineers and designers of the car. Additionally, four new 2017 Corvette colors will be shown at the Bash.
On June 18-19, the museum will host a live feed of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in the museum theater with live timing and scoring along with refreshments and hourly updates from the Corvette race team. Registration is $100.
The museum’s next “Museum in Motion” tours include the Tail of the Dragon on May 1-4 and the Marble and Glass tour through New England from May 19-22.
Elsewhere, the America On Wheels Museum in Allentown, Pennsylvania has “the most notorious vehicle in the Lehigh Valley” on display today and Saturday. The car, a 2004 Toyota Matrix XS, has more than 350,000 original miles and has been used to deliver pizza during the past 10 years by radio personality and disc jockey Stewart Brodian.
Sunday, the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles joins Super Street and The Enthusiast Network in staging a Japanese Cruise-In & Tech Day Car Meet from 8 a.m. until noon. Last year more than 500 cars turned out.
This weekend the LeMay Marymount in Tacoma, Washington, holds a Wine and Chocolate event featuring more than 40 vendors with local wines, spirits and chocolates. Meanwhile, registration has opened for the museum’s Model T Drivers’ Education program which has sessions April 23, May 14, June 4, July 9, August 13 and September 10.
The California Automobile Museum in Sacramento offers a photography class Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Next weekend, the “Second Saturday Tour” looks at three Lincolns with Bob Daloia.
On May 30, the museum stages a Memorial Day car show featuring Corvettes and other American muscle car.
The Owls Head Transportation Museum in Maine holds its Midcoast Model Festival this weekend. The festival attracts more than 70 vendors and features model trains, aircraft, boats, automobiles and more.
The next speaker-series discussion at the Blackhawk Museum, located in Danville, California, is Saturday and will feature Wayne Carini from the TV series Chasing Classic Cars. On May 7, Allen Grant discusses the 1965 Shelby Team Driver in conjunction with the third annual Carroll Shelby Memorial Car Show.
In Auburn, Indiana, Indianapolis Motor Speedway historian Donald Davidson speaks April 6 at the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum about the history of the Indianapolis 500 and on the 100th running of the race next month. The program, including a question and answer period, begins at 5:00 p.m.
On April 9, the Mullin Automotive Museum in Oxnard, California, features Cars & Carriages from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., celebrating French coachbuilders from the beginning of the automotive age through the end of the 19th Century.
The British Motor Museum in Gaydon, United Kingdom, holds themed workshops April 9. The first is a “Classic Virgins” experience day with museum experts going over the basics of buying and owning a classic car in addition to go over basic maintenance and give rides in a variety of classic cars. Later in the day, art teacher and accomplished pencil sketcher Richard Cook will hold a class, “Drawing from Automotive History,” discussing different techniques of drawing cars and look at things like composition, angles, and how to draw metal.
The following weekend, the museum hosts a workshop on how to photograph cars with Lara Platman.
The next Science Saturday at the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada, is April 9 and features “exploring the Titanic with a passenger,” followed by “Exploring planet Earth” on May 14, “Roving Marz” on June 11, “Journeying to the moon” on July 9, and “food in space” on August 13.
On April 9, a tribute to the USRRC is planned at the NHRA Wally Parks Motorsports Museum in Pomona, California. The event celebrates the SCCA’s first pro racing series of 1963-1968.
LeMay-America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, Washington, has announced its 2016 cruise-in dates. The cruise-ins are free and feature a DJ, food and the option to enter to win prizes and the people’s choice award. The dates are April 14, May 12, June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8 and October 13.
Additionally, early registration for the fifth annual Vintage Motorcycle Festival: the MEET, has opened. The date is July 30. Early registration for the event is $15 through July 15, after which it will be $20.
The Simeone Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has a special exhibit running April 16 through May 1 with 18 road-going and competition cars from Subaru’s history.
The next class in a six-part series on the foundations of automotive photography at the museum is set for April 16 and features composition. Classes follow June 4, July 30, September 17 and October 29.
The National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Museum’s series of monthly “Sprint Car 101 forums” has scheduled with the following events: “Remembering Jerry Richert,” hosted by Phil Dullinger on April 17 at the American Legion Post in Savage, Minnesota; “An Evening with Duane ‘Pancho’ Carter & Steve Stapp to benefit Racers at Rest,” hosted by Brian Gerster May 5 at the American Legion Post in Speedway, Indiana; and remaining forums held at the museum in Knoxville, Iowa on May 21, June 11 and July 16.
Meanwhile, the AACA Museum in Hershey, Pennsylvania, has its first car show of the season, Cars 4 Critters, April 23 to benefit homeless animals.
The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan, celebrates its 50th anniversary with an event to honor its founder. The show, “the Donald Gilmore Classic,” showcases cars from 18961942 and includes a driving tour May 20 and a swap meet May 21.
The World of Speed Museum in Wilsonville, Oregon, holds its 2016 Spark Gala on September 17. The event is an effort to raise funds for the museum’s educational programs.
