ClassicCars.com finds out what classics Mom drove in honor of Mother’s Day

-

Phoenix (May 7, 2015) –In honor of Mother’s Day, ClassicCars.com, the world’s #1 marketplace for collector cars, recently asked its 100,000+ blog followers what kind of car their mothers drove when they were children.   The number one answer is the iconic Chevrolet Bel Air with 16 percent of the vote.

The second most popular car evokes some backward-facing jump seat memories: the Ford Country Squire Station Wagon.  With its resplendent wood paneling and giant V8 engines that could tow a small town, the venerable Ford hauled many families in comfort and safety for millions of miles.

Coming in at number three is the stylish Cadillac Sedan de Ville and the indestructible Ford Falcon in a tie. Perhaps the most expensive of the top three, the Sedan de Ville was the epitome of American luxury for decades.  From the 1950s models with their pronounced tail fins, to the luxo-barges of the ’70s and ’80s, people knew that if it said Cadillac on the grill, it meant comfort and luxury.  Conversely, the reliable Ford Falcon was designed to exist on the other end of the spectrum with simplistic looks and no-frills interiors.

“Some people today see the Bel Air as a hot rod,” said Roger Falcione, CEO of ClassicCars.com.  “But it was very much a family cruiser back in the day, much like the Ford Country Squire and it’s great to see it at number one in our poll, celebrated as a family car.”.”

The following are complete results of the ClassicCars.com poll:
