Today in Los Angeles, and for the 89th time, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will award Oscars to honor what are judged to have been the best efforts last year by film makers.

As far as we know, none of the nominated films has much to do with cars, although they do appear to play a role as getaway vehicles in Hell or High Water, and we hear there’s a classic convertible in La La Land.

But around these parts, we prefer movies in which cars play major roles, so we polled The Daily News @ ClassicCars.com editorial team and asked for lists of favorite car-centric movies.

So if you need an alternative to the awards show, you might check the availability on Netflix or Amazon or HBO Now or On Demand or whatever source you have to select from our list (presented alphabetically), or perhaps you just want to pick and choose the titles that match your preferences.

Oh, and if you think we’ve missed a great car movie or two, you can let us know through the Comments section that follows our list:
