Since getting back into the classic car auction business in November 2012, Carlisle Auctions has staged four sales, the most recent earlier this month in conjunction with the Fall Carlisle event at the Carlisle Expo Center in Pennsylvania. Sales totaled more than $3 million, and Carlisle Auctions reported that it enjoyed its best sell-through rate to date with 65 percent of all lots being hammered as sold.
Carlisle Auctions feature a free-unless-sold policy for those consigning vehicles, meaning there are no seller’s fees unless the vehicle sells. Needless to say, every slot — more than 320 of them — on the lot list was filled.
The top sales of the auction were $144,450 (all prices include buyer’s premium) for a 2001 BMW Z8 from the Ed Ullom Collection and $77,575 for a 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A.
A 1956 Chevrolet Corvette formerly owned by Carlisle Events co-founder chip Miller went for $77,040. A 1964 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE sold for $74,900.
“The Carlisle Auctions’ team is thrilled to announce that we enjoyed our most successful fall auction in our 10-year history,” said Tony Cline, director of auction operations. “We exceeded $3 million in sales and had a sell-through rate of 65 percent.
“We also had the highest number of registered bidders of any Carlisle Auction ever.”
Carlisle Auctions will stage another two-day sale as part of Carlisle Events’ classic car celebration November 14-15 at Zephyrhills, Florida.
