Chevrolet Corvettes were hot sellers at Barrett-Jackson’s auction this past weekend in Las Vegas, with two of them leading the auction results and a couple others cracking the top 10.
The charity sale of a 2016 Corvette Z06 for $500,000 to benefit the College for Creative Studies topped the bidding of the three-day auction that realized a total of $26.9 million for 678 cars, with a 98 percent sell-through rate for the mostly no-reserve sale.
In second-place was the regular sale of a rare 1968 Corvette L88, a 427cid/430-horsepower coupe which went for $330,000 including auction fee (all results except charity sales include 10 percent auction fees).
A 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL on the block at Mandalay Bay | Barrett-JacksonRounding out the top five were a 2005 Ford GT for $291,500; 1966 Ford Fairlane 500 R-Code, which set a world auction record at $275,000; and an ultra-exotic 2012 Falcon Series 1F7, $198,000.
A choice 1962 Chevrolet Corvette 430 custom convertible, $192,500, and a 1965 Corvette 396 cid/425-horsepower fastback coupe, an NCRS Top Flight and Bloomington Gold award winner, $170,500, also were among the top 10.
Although the 2015 results were off compared with the $33.3 million total for the 2014 Vegas auction when more than 700 cars sold, auction chairman Craig Jackson noted that overall, 2015 was one of Barrett-Jackson’s best years. Next year marks the 45th anniversary of Barrett-Jackson’s flagship Scottsdale, Arizona, auction.
“Ending with a successful event in Las Vegas made 2015 one of the strongest auction years in terms of overall sales and attendance for Barrett-Jackson,” Jackson said in a news release. “We kicked off the year with our Scottsdale auction featuring the Ron Pratte Collection, one of the broadest and most eclectic collections in the world. It was also our debut broadcast on Discovery and Velocity.”

Charity sales, a hallmark of Barrett-Jackson auctions with all proceeds going directly to the beneficiaries, reached $750,000.
“We’re especially proud of the role Barrett-Jackson plays in the support of charities that benefit wonderful organizations across the country,” Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson, said in the news release.
“With all the generosity of our bidders, we raised $750,000 in support of the Fisher House Foundation, College for Creative Studies and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.”
The Saturday “prime time” auction started with the announcement that Barrett-Jackson would hold its first auction in the northeastern United States on June 23-25 at the famed Mohegan Sun resort and casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.
