Artcurial, France’s major classic car auction house, has announced two of the headline vehicles to be offered at its Retromobile Salon sale February 6, 2015 in Paris. Those cars are 1928 Bugatti Type 43 Grand Sport raced by Malcolm Campbell and a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/2 formerly owned by Roger Vadim and Jane Fonda.
Campbell, who was the world speed record holder on both land and water, drove his Bugatti in the Essex Six Hour race and in the RAC Tourist Trophy competition in 1928. Artcurial estimates the car to be worth “several million euros.”
Also crossing the block will be the 275 GTB purchased new by French film director, producer and screenwriter Roger Vadim and later given to his third wife, American actress Jane Fonda.
“Three years after Roger Vadim’s Ferrari 250 California sold for $6 million, we will be presenting, amongst others, his Ferrari 275 GTB,” said Matthieu Lamoure, managing director for Artcurial Motorcars.
“Emotion, excitement and passion will be the key words for this exceptional auction sale,” he continued. “The 2015 edition of our Retromobile sale holds some big surprises for visitors to the Salon and for our international clientele.”
Artcurial said the Vadim/Fonda Ferrari has never left France since the filmmaker bought it. The car carries a pre-auction estimated value of $3.25 to $4.3 million.
“Once again,” the auction house said in its news release, “Artcurial will draw connections between the worlds of cinema and the automobile.”
The reference was to the company’s recent sale in which is sold the 1969 Morgan 4/4 roadster from the film Les Valseuses as well as a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 like that of James Bond fame. The DB5, with left-hand drive, brought $1.264 million at the Automobiles sure les Champs sale.
