Paris-based Artcurial Motorcars has released the star cars for its auction July 9 at the Le Mans Classic.
Held every other year in conjunction with the vintage racing weekend at the full and famed Circuit de la Sarthe, the auction and various car shows are based at the Bugatti Circuit, a section of the longer 24-hour race course.
Artcurial will offer some 115 lots at its sale, including a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta (No. 2917GT) that originally was presented at the Paris Motor Show, comes with a complete ownership history, has the same owner for 47 years and has never left France. The car has a pre-auction estimated value of $1.87 million to $2.1 million.
Also on the docket is a 1977 Porsche 935 that raced three times in the round-the-clock race at Le Mans, including in 1980 with Herve Poulain, who now serves as Artcurial’s auctioneer. It has set a pre-sale estimated value of $1.21 million to $1.65 million.

- A 1947 Delage D6 3.0L Grand Prix, a two-seater raced by Auguste Veuillet, Edmond Mouche at Le Mans in 1949 and later was raced by Philippe Etancelin, Maurice Trintignant and Charles Pozzi. Artcurial said the car is the only remaining example still with its original body. Pre-auction estimated value: $1.32 million to $1.54 million.
- 1977 Ferrari 330 GTS with Ferrari Classiche certification. Pre-auction estimated value: $1,89 million to $2.15 million.
- 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL roadster, which is being offered with its optional hard top still in its original wooden case as well as its original matching luggage. Pre-sale estimate: $770,000 to $1.21 million.
“The Le Mans Classic offers an amazing retrospective of the Le Mans 24-Hour race, the greatest motor race in the world. Our sale follows the same format,” Matthieu Lamoure, Artcurial Motorcars managing director, said in a news release. “With some 115 cars, a third of which will be offered at no reserve, the 2016 Le Mans sale will be the biggest since 2010, the first year of our partnership.”
