Mecum Auctions sold 756 collector cars during its four-day sale in Dallas last week, posting $24.6 million in transactions and a 73 percent sell-through rate. American muscle cars were a top draw, mostly filling the list of top-10 sellers.
The results were about on par with the 2015 Dallas auction held in September 2015, when sales were $24.8 million at a 65 percent rate.
This year’s highest sale was that of a 1965 Shelby GT350 that hammered for $410,000 (Mecum results do not include buyer fees), followed by a 1968 Chevrolet Yenko Camaro RS/SS sold for $335,000.
The auction started Wednesday with the sale of 130 cars from the collection of Ron MacWhorter, a New Mexico real estate developer, with nearly 100 percent of the diverse collection of American muscle, classics and street rods going to new owners.
“The offering created an audible buzz of excitement among the crowd of bidders and spectators, and more than $2.4 million worth of collector cars changed hands in a matter of hours,” Mecum said in a news release.
The top-10 sales for the Dallas auction were:

4. 1969 Dodge Daytona at $242,500
5. 1984 Lamborghini Countach 5000S at $210,000
6. 2002 BMW Z8 roadster at $180,000
7. 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 fastback at $180,000
8. 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda at $112,500
9. 1967 Shelby GT350 fastback at $107,000
10. 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Cabriolet at $102,500
