RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island sale is always a great mix of cars of different types and eras and very much is a reflection of the cars that will be on display come Sunday at the concours d’elegance. This year is no different with RM offering a amazingly diverse and interesting collection of cars.
Of the 100 cars on offer, I picked these I would most like to park in my garage:
| 1932 Packard Twin Six Coupe Roadster A twin six in this configuration is a stunning example of the finest of American car construction, and this one has the added bonus of having the actor Clark Gable as its original owner. The third owner reportedly paid 75 dollars for the car in the 1950s but I would happily pay the estimate of $650,000 to $800,00 for it today. Eligible for any event and a great history in a great car. |  |
| 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO When new these were the it car for Ferrari and now they are even more so. These are fast, super fun to drive and a very rare car. The pre-auction estimate of $2.3 million to $2.6 million is market correct and we would not be surprised for it to reach the high estimate. |  |
| 1958 AC Aceca-Bristol These AC Aceca cars are very special and very rare and still not top of mind to many collectors. That to me spells a car with potential. The fact that this car was also restored many years ago by the factory and still wears that restoration only adds to the allure of this fine car. The pre-sale estimate of $200,000 to $240,000 is more than fair for this fine automobile. |  |
| 1968 Penske Racing Chevrolet Camaro Do I need to say more than that? No , it is not a replica but the real McCoy. A great buy at any price and at the $900,000 to $1.1 million estimate seems like a good buy to me. |  |
| 1932 Ruxton Model C sedan This amazing car, the world’s first front-wheel-drive car, has been shown and won at to many concours events to count and is better in person that the pictures convey. An amazing restoration and eligible everywhere. Very fair at $375,000 to $450,000. |  |
| 1976 Porsche Turbo Carrera The first version of the mythic Porsche Turbo and to me the one that will always have the most value. These early Turbos are more rare than the deified Carrera RS and still a bargain at $275,000 to $350,000 |  |
Ruxton not worlds first front wheel drive car. ALVIS had front wheel drive in the 1920’s and a Dutch built car before that.
