The Owls Head Transportation Museum’s 38th annual New England Auto Auction posted a record $2.8 million in sales with 150 of the 187 vehicles selling.
The museum attributes the record-breaking sales figures to the quality, diversity, and volume of vehicles, as well as to addition to national media exposure and increased awareness of the museum.
The auction is the museum’s largest annual fundraiser and an annually represents about 20 percent of the museum’s operating budget.
The top sales included a four-speed 1968 Mercury Cougar XR-7 GT-E, one of only three with a factory-in stalled 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air engine, that sold for $228,800; a 1968 Shelby GT 500 that brought $137,500; 1933 Pierce-Arrow 1242 seven-passenger sedan that sold for $115,500; and a 1948 Packard Eight Station Sedan that went for $90,750.
