The third annual Cruisin’ Nocoma classic car weekend is scheduled for May 7-9 in the historic north Texas town, and again the event includes an auction, this year of some 300 vehicles by the Louisiana-based Vicari Auction Company.
Nocona was known for producing baseball gloves and cowboy boots, but like so many communities fell on hard times. A few years ago, Pete Horton returned to his hometown, restored several buildings — including a couple of old car dealerships that he turned into a museum — and launched the annual Cruisin’ Nocona weekend.
The celebration starts Thursday morning, May 7, with a classic car cruise through the Texas landscape, followed by a classic car parade that evening in downtown Nocona, with vehicles parking near the Horton Classic Car Museum.
The featured third annual car show is Saturday, May 9, from noon to 4:30 p.m.
The Vicari auction is Friday and Saturday. Featured vehicles include a 1966 Chevrolet Bel Air 427/425 survivor with 60,000 miles, a 1963 split-window Chevrolet Corvette fuelie, and one of only 750 1953 Packard Caribbeans, this one formerly used to transport dignitaries by the Peruvian embassy.
