The Amelia Island Select collector-car auction put on by Hollywood Wheels is a two-day affair that spans two sides of the market. Friday’s sale was an all-Porsche event with a wide selection of early cars, competition cars and many 911s.
Today’s auction is more open ended, with a group of around 100 cars and motorcycles ranging from modest entry-level vehicles to desirable customs and cruisers.
I went over to the Omni Amelia Island Plantation resort where the auctions are being held in a large ballroom. After salivating over some of the terrific Porsche offerings, I checked out what’s coming up for sale today.
Here are my personal favorites:
 | 1952 Hudson Hornet The Hudson design was called a “step down” because of its lowered chassis, which also made it formidable on NASCAR tracks. This four-door looks sleek in black. |
 | 1960 Cadillac Series 62 custom coupe This bubble top looks super clean with shaved door handles and such, and dig those wire wheels. The interior is light-blue faux ostrich. Now that’s class. |
 | 1972 Vespa 150 Sprint scooter There are four classic Vespa scooters crossing the block, and this one in bright silver is my favorite. I’d look so cosmopolitan. |
 | 1954 Buick Skylark convertible These were very special limited-edition cars built for just a short time. I love the cutaway wheel wells. Great chrome details throughout, especially the fins. |
 | 1939 American Bantam Model 60 Speedster A teensy car that looks part toy and part hot rod. Just don’t call it a clown car. I wouldn’t have a prayer of fitting behind the wheel, but I like it anyway. |
