If you have a classic car that’s at least 25 years of age or older, and if it is at all possible, you want to be at the Mobil gas station at 36101 Woodward Avenue in the Detroit suburb of Birmingham between 7 and 10 a.m. Friday.
Why? Because it’s national Collector Car Appreciation Day and Hagerty Classic Car Magazine is celebrating by offering “historic pricing” at the vintage-themed station.
Here’s how it works: Pull up in your classic and receive a full-service fill-up (maximum 10 gallons), plus window cleaning, even coffee and doughnuts, for which you’ll pay whatever the going per-gallon rate was the year your car was new (starting at 25 cents per gallon).
For example, show up in a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette (or any other ’65 model) and you get 10 gallons for 30 cents per.
Even if you don’t have a classic car, show up anyway and enjoy seeing what’s there. The folks from Hagerty, the Michigan-based classic car-insurance company, are bringing a few of their own, including a 1930 Ford Model A, a 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang and a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS.
What a great idea! I hope this catches on throughout the country. Hopefully those with cars from ’74 won’t be forced to wait in long lines before they can get gas…
It would take many tanks of fuel for me to get there, but it would be so much fun.
