There have been and will continue to be a bunch of 50th anniversary birthday celebrations this year for the Ford Mustang, but one of the most interesting could be the one staged by Carlisle Events, June 6-8 at the Carlisle (Pennsylvania) Fairgrounds.
For one thing, the local Carlisle Bakery has been commissioned to produce a birthday cake in the size and shape of a 1964 1/2 Mustang convertible. The cake will be featured — and at some point fed to a few hundred guests — during a party within a party June 6 from 5-7 p.m.
In addition to the cake, visitors will feed on words about America’s pony car from experts including Don Farr, Steve Saleen, Lee Holman, Hubert Platt, Dave Dempster, John Clor and Jerry Heasley, among others. Oh, and those others included some Ford engineers who helped to develop the weekend’s guest of honor — the 2015 Mustang, of which two pre-production versions will be onsite.
Another feature of the weekend will be a Special Edition Mustang gathering of cars built for special events and occasions, including pace cars, the 1972 Olympic Sprint and even the 2014 Hertz Penske GT.
Another feature will be a 50-year/50-car spotlight with half-a-hundred Mustangs that are half-a-hundred years old.
