In 2006 Chip Foose was in to his third year on TLC’s TV show Overhaulin and, in one of his most watched episodes, built a 1972 Dodge Challenger in front of fellow enthusiasts at the SEMA show in Las Vegas.
At the time, the car was owned by Dan Goodman, a Mopar enthusiast, who initially bought the car as a restoration project for him and his youngest son, Mike. However, Mike had other plans and one day told his dad he had lost the car. In reality, he had contacted Foose, who agreed to take on the project.
Chip Foose inside the 1972 Dodge ChallengerThe build process at SEMA began with Foose showing his sketch of the finished car to the audience as he and his team got to work. The finished product called for shaved bumper, shaved door handles, Bowler Racing transmission, Gear Vendors overdrive, Ride Tech Air Ride suspension, one-off Foose wheels and Baer brakes all around complete with MagnaFlow exhaust.
Powering the Challenger is a 392 Hemi 6.4-liter engine that puts out 525 horsepower to the rear wheels.
The inside of the car features high-back Cobra seats, door treatments, and the dashboard has custom analog gages.
The car is being offered by Vicari Auctions at its inaugural Tampa sale of the year, April 1-2, in the Expo Hall of the Florida State Fairgrounds in conjunction with the Festivals of Speed & NSRA Southeast Street Rod Nationals.
