A 1937 Jaguar SS 100 2 1/2 liter, said to be restored to concours quality, sold for nearly $310,000 (£309,800) at Coys’ recent Spirit of Motoring auction at the Ascot racecourse.

The auction house also noted a 1994 Porsche 964 Speedster, one of only 14 with right-hand drive, that sold for nearly $220,000, a 1986 Porsche 930 Turbo SE “flatnose” that went for nearly $120,500 and a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 220S cabriolet, one of only 20 with right-hand drive, that sold for nearly $75,000.

A 1962 Austin Healey MKII brought nearly $52,000, the 1966 Tecno Formula 3 racer driven by Clay Regazzoni went for more than $45,000 and a 1955 Bentley Series 1 sports saloon with Hooper coachwork, originally displayed at the 1956 Earls Court Motor Show, sold for nearly $44,000.

Total sales and sell-through rate were not reported.

“Held at a true British sporting establishment, Ascot was a great auction that deserved to host only the most exemplary selection of racing cars,” Chris Routledge, Coys managing partner, said in a news release. “We were delighted to see such an exquisite list of collector’s cars go under the hammer. Both collectors and the historic motor trade were pleased with the results, not only with the prices achieved, but also with the strong volume of sales.”

Coys’ next sale will be its “True Greats” auction December 1 at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Lindley Hall in London.
