A 1936 Delahaye 135 Figoni-Falaschi 135 Competition Convertible owned by Ken and Ann Smith won Best in Show honors in addition to the French Curves Class at the 12th annual La Jolla Concours d’Elegance last weekend.
This Delahaye has a 3.5-liter six-cylinder competition engine and was the first of 30 streamlined competition cars with the engine, chassis and competition transmission.
Of those 30, only about half survived due to wrecks on the track and the devastation of World War II.
Other top awards included “Most Outstanding Pre-War” to a 1931 Chrysler Phaeton owned by Aaron and Valerie Weiss and “Most Outstanding Post-War” to a 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL owned by Bill and Linda Feldhorn.
Specialty award winners included a 1977 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera Coupe owned by Anthony Barabas, who took home “Most fun car I would like to drive.”
